The solar control films industry has garnered $728.4 million revenue in 2021, and it is expected to rise at a rate of 6.5% from 2021 to 2030, to generate $1,283.8 million revenue. It is attributed to surging awareness on solar control films' advantages compare to sun-reflective glass, increasing rate of real estate development, and growing focus on carbon footprint and energy costs reduction.

The solar control film is a thin film installed on window glass to decrease heat transfer by reflecting back visible light, ultraviolet as well as infrared light entering through the window. It functions on the convection and radiation principles to decrease the heat flow.

These films are usually dyed or metalized, and has the potential to reject and reflect back the solar radiation to the exterior environment through window glass.

These materials can decrease the transmission of energy by 80%, compared to regular window films. Thus, it offers the effective solutions for temperature control in hot summer.

Under the type segment, vacuum variants hold the largest industry share, of over 40%, and it is projected to rise in the near future. It is ascribed to surging construction, and rising road traction of automobiles, as these films reflect the major solar radiation, and ensure interior remains cooler.

The harmful UV rays are blocked by the metal and reflects the heat of  the sun. The metalization of sheets involve numerous methods, such as, sputtering, evaporation, and beam evaporation.

The sub-atmospheric pressure and atomic or molecular condensable vapor source are developed by vacuum to deposit castings and thin films.

Under the application segment, the construction industry hold the largest industry revenue, of over 52% in 2021, led by rising usage of these materials in residential and commercial buildings. The surging infrastructure development in the emerging economies, including India, China, Malaysia, Brazil, and South Africa have fuelled the requirement for solar control films.

The solar control window glass are massively replaced by solar control films, due to lower cost than former. It offers greater safety, higher solar reduction rate, and massive security.

One can upgrade the insulation potential of their windows, by insulating them with 3M Low-E window films. This window films serves as an upgradation from single-pane windows to double-pane or from double-pane to triple-pane windows.

The heat is reflected back by the low-E window films and dispersed into the home. These films also keep the spots warm during chilling cold, adding comfort to winters and benefits such as lowering heating costs. The better insulation properties of such window films also helps in reducting the electricity bills. In such manner, it benefits various homeowners.

Advantages of Solar Control Films at Office

During summer, the solar heat and glare can cause extreme discomfort at office, at home, and on the floor. As temperature rises, the work efficiency decreases, due to rising discomfort caused by hot temperature.

The ambient temperature within workspaces can improve the productivity of the team. According to the studies, the rise in temperature more than 27 degrees, decreases the temperature by 4%.

It also impacts the frequent computer users, as sun glare on the visual display units cause eye-strain and discomfort. It shows a major effect on profitability of the company.
