The NDIS is made up of three parts: the plan, workforce and participant. The local area coordinator works closely with the support coordinator to coordinate the delivery of support services required by a participant from the community. In simpler words, the local area coordinator is responsible for implementing plans in a specific area. The support coordinator supports each and every participant and is responsible for coordinating their needs across different areas such as help with activities, care and recreation.

There are many benefits that come with having an NDIS local area coordination, including: a streamlined process for accessing and purchasing goods and services, access to support and counseling, financial planning and budgeting support, educational resources and more. LACs are important because they help make this possible by planning support to participants in local communities.
