When you are organising a corporate event, there is a lot that you will need to get right – think the venue, the schedule, the speakers or other people who may be present on the day, and so much more. So, with that in mind, do you really need to spend that much time thinking about canapés?

Alas, while canapés do constitute just one part of the overall catering at a given event, their importance can be easily overlooked. They can help get the festivities going nicely at your event, including encouraging guests to mingle and converse with each other. So, it’s worth being mindful of the power of what the right canapés can do.

Let’s take a look, then, at just five ideas for canapés that you might consider for your organisation’s upcoming corporate event.

Risotto

Most of us tend to think of risotto as a bigger main dish, but it can also work really well in canapés. You might look to prepare such canapés comprising ingredients such as asparagus, tea, and mint, with the result served in Parmesan baskets.

Sausage rolls

They’re a perennial favourite when it comes to corporate events and parties, so how could we not mention the good old sausage roll?

Furthermore, there’s plentiful scope to come up with creative new takes on the basic formula of sausage meat wrapped in puff pastry – for example, veggie sausage rolls with soft sauteed carrots, leeks and cheese, or Asian-inspired ones with flavouring provided by sesame oil, spring onion, and ginger.

Halloumi dippers

For canapés that are absolutely on the more indulgent side, what about some crisp halloumi ones, with a light and crunchy coating of panko breadcrumbs? Or you could just use normal breadcrumbs – whether homemade or preserved ones from a packet – if you want to minimise costs.

Either way, these deep-fried little cheese bites are sure to be irresistible for many of the attendees of your next corporate event – to such an extent that you might even need to limit them to two or three maximum per person.

Peanut butter caramel

While we’re on the subject of indulging a bit, this nutty interpretation of the timeless Millionaire’s shortbread is another excellent idea for a canapé, which could be a great after-dinner option after a shot of espresso.

You could prepare some of these specifically for a sweet grazing board, for which you could cut them into triangles and squares. They’re also very easy to make, although you should allow about one and a half hours for this process, plus time for things to cool and set.

Edible cups

Let’s face it – canapés in non-edible cups can be a bit of a faff, so you might as well make the cups themselves delicious, too. And you have a lot of options for what those cups could be made from – puff pastry, apple, hash browns, you name it.

As for the fillings, you might consider the likes of chicken liver parfait, pea mousse, or even cheesecake… again, don’t be afraid to use your imagination.
